A Notary Public is a person of required honesty, credibility, truthfulness, and integrity appointed by the State of California to serve the public as an impartial witness in performing a variety of acts related to the signing of important documents, taking oaths and affirmations, and performing other acts authorized by law.
A Notary’s job is to do the following:
- authenticate a person’s identity
- verify that the person executed (signed) the document
- compel an affiant to truthfulness
Examples of documents that might need a Notary Public are:
- Wills & Power of Attorney
- Loan Documents
- Deeds (Quitclaim, Deeds of Trust, Grand Deeds)
- Travel letters or passport applications
- Acknowledgements
Should you need a Notary Public, please bring a California-Approved Identification:
- CA Drivers License/ID Card
- U.S. Passport or passport card
- Other states driver’s license or ID card
- Canadian driver’s license
- Mexican driver’s license
- Foreign passport
- Military ID card
- CA Inmate ID
- Employee ID card issued by the state of CA, or any city or county in CA.
